In order to fill 731 Stenographer Grade "C" (Group "B," Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade "D" (Group "C") positions in various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations, including their Attached offices, Subordinate offices, and Statutory bodies of the Government of India located in various States and Union Territories, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued a notification to conduct Computer Based Examinations. Scheme of Examination

The schedule for the Stenographer Grade "C" and "D" Examination, 2026 is as follows.

Question type: Only objective multiple-choice questions will be included in the question paper.

Medium: Both Hindi and English will be used for the questions.

Itanagar (5001), Guwahati (Dispur) (5105), Dibrugarh (5102), Imphal (5501), Shillong (5401), Aizawl (5701), Kohima (5302), Agartala (5601), Churachandpur (5502), Ukhrul (5503), Jorhat (5107), and Dimapur (5301) are the NER exam locations

Negative marking: Each incorrect response on the computer-based exam will result in a 0.25 mark deduction.

Normalization of marks: If the Computer Based Examination is administered in multiple shifts, the candidates' scores will be normalized using the process outlined in the Commission's Notice dated 02-06-2025. The final merit and cut-off marks will be determined using these normalized scores.

Skill Test

Those who made the short list for the computer-based exam must show up for the stenography skill test. Depending on their selection in the online application, students will be given a 10-minute dictation in either Hindi or English for this test. For the Grade "C" stenographer position, the dictation pace will be 100 words per minute, whereas for the Grade "D" position, it will be 80 words per minute. After that, as explained below, candidates must use a computer to transcribe the dictated paragraph within the allotted time.

The Commission's Regional Offices or another location, as determined by the Commission, shall host the skill test.

Document Verification

Following the announcement of the outcome, the User Departments/Organizations will carry out Document Verification (DV).
