The Centralized Employment Notification (CEN) 01/2026 for the recruitment of 11127 Assistant Loco Pilot positions in various RRBs has been announced by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Ministry of Railways, Government of India. The RRB ALP Vacancy 2026 online application period will run from May 15 to June 14, 2026.

Candidates who meet the requirements can read the advertisement and submit an online application here. Only one RRB may be selected by candidates, and they must specify which Railway Zones they would wish to be notified under.

Eligibility Criteria of RRB ALP 


  • Age Requirement: As on July 1, 2026, candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30.
  • Age Relaxation: The following upper age limits for reserved categories have been relaxed:

Qualifications for Education:
A) Matriculation, SSLC, and ITI in the trades of Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic from accredited NCVT/SCVT.

(OR) SSLC and Matriculation plus Course Completion Act Apprenticeship in the aforementioned trades 

(OR)

B) In lieu of ITI, matriculation or SSLC plus a three-year diploma in mechanical, electrical, electronic, or automotive engineering (OR a mix of these engineering streams from an accredited institution).

Note: A degree in any of the aforementioned engineering areas may also be used in place of an engineering diploma.

Candidates are not eligible to apply if they are awaiting the final results of the required technical or educational requirements.

  • Upload your passport sized photograph and signature and other required documents.
  • Pay the examination fee as per your category and at the end click on submit button .
  • Don't forget to take a print of submitted application form.

Selection Process of RRB ALP

The recruitment process shall comprise of the following stages:

(i) First Stage CBT (CBT-1)
(ii) Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)
(iii) Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
(iv) Document Verification (DV) and
(v) Medical Examination (ME) 
 

First Stage CBT (CBT-1)


CBT-1 will only be used as a screening test to select qualified applicants for CBT-2 based on their merit and normalized scores. When creating the final panel, the CBT-1 marks will not be taken into account.

Maximum marks: 75 (@1 mark per question)

Negative marking: @1/3rd marks for each wrong answer

Exam duration: 60 minutes

Minimum pass percentage for eligibility: 

  • UR & EWS: 40%
  • OBC (NCL): 30%
  • SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%.

Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)

Candidates will be shortlisted for CBT-2. RRB-wise and community-wise among the candidates who have selected the same RRB exclusively, based on their normalized marks and merit in CBT-1. A maximum of 15 (fifteen) times the number of open positions announced against each RRB may be shortlisted for CBT-2.

Only the candidates' scores and merit from CBT-2 and CBAT will be used to prepare the final panels for ALP.

Part-A and Part-B are the two sections that make up CBT-2.
 
  • Part-A: 90 minutes & 100 questions
  • Part-B: 60 minutes & 75 questions
Only the marks scored in Part-A shall be counted for shortlisting of candidates for further stages of this recruitment process provided the candidate irrespective of community is able to secure qualifying marks (35%) in Part-B.

Negative marking: There shall be negative marking @1/3rd marks for each wrong answer.

Part B Syllabus 

The Directorate General of Training (DGT) has prescribed questions from the various trade curricula for Part-B, which is only a qualifying exam.
35% is the qualifying percentage for all applicants, regardless of community or category.

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)


Number of shortlisted candidates: Based on their scores in Part-A of CBT-2 among the candidates who have selected the same RRB only with the application of reservation rules, candidates equal to eight times the number of ALP vacancies for each notified community or category, i.e., UR (including OBC-CL), OBC (NCL), SC, ST, and EWS (including ExSM), will be shortlisted for CBAT, provided they meet the requirements in Part-B of CBT-2.

These shortlisted applicants must present their Vision Certificate in the required format.

To be eligible, each test battery or CBAT segment must be cleared independently.

Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking and the CBAT will only be available in Hindi and English.

Qualifying Scores: To be eligible for the CBAT, all applicants (regardless of community) must get a minimum T-score of 42 points in each test battery independently.

Merit List: Only candidates who passed the CBAT will be included in the merit list. Marks from Part-A of the CBT-2 will be worth 70%, while scores from the CBAT will be worth 30%.
